District 5 Names New Director of Elementary Education

Michael Guliano, principal of Bookman Road Elementary School in Richland School District Two, has been named director of elementary education.

Michael Guliano, a veteran school administrator, has been named Lexington-Richland School District Five's new director of elementary education.

He replaces . 

“This is certainly a great opportunity and an exciting experience,” Guliano said. “Early childhood education is the foundation for our students, and it’s so important that we expose them to words, thoughts, ideas and a love for learning early on. I look forward to working with the staff of District Five and am grateful for this opportunity.”

Guliano is currently principal of Bookman Road Elementary School in Richland School District Two and served as the school’s assistant principal prior to taking the school’s lead administrative role.

His other posts include assistant administrator at Swansea Primary School, basketball coach at Heathwood Hall Episcopal School and teacher at Cherryvale Elementary School in Sumter.

He holds a bachelor’s degree from Eastern Connecticut State University and a master’s degree from the University of South Carolina. Guliano’s professional recognitions include: 2012 Richland County Conservation Principal of the Year and 2009-2010 South Carolina State Council International Reading Association Administrator of the Year. He also has served on numerous panels and boards, including the state Department of Education’s Red Carpet Focus Group. 

As District Five’s elementary education director, Guliano will provide leadership in supporting, promoting and assessing progress toward improved instructional outcomes at the elementary school level. He will also coach and advise educators, while reviewing district goals and policies.

“We are excited to have Mr. Guliano join our team,” Dr. Melton said. “We’re sure his years of experience in instruction and administration will be an asset to the students of District Five.”
