A man serving time in federal prison on a gambling charged testified Monday that Brett Parker owed him money.
Brett Parker, an Irmo man on trial for double murder, owed $175,000 to a former Midlands bookie, according to testimony in day eight of the trial. Lanny Ray Gunter, a man in serving time in federal prison after pleading guilty to a gambling charge, testified that Brett Parker owed him $175,00, according to WIS. Parker was paying off the debt by $5,000 or $10,000 a month. Family and friends of Bryan Capnerhurst, who was found shot dead along with Brett Parker's wife in the Parkers' Ascot Estates home in April 2012, also testified Monday, according to The State. Seven additional people were arrested in a bank scam that involved three local banks in Richland County.
Richland County Sheriff's investigators arrested seven additional people they say were involved in a local bank scam operation. Sheriff Leon Lott said in a release that family and friends convinced the suspects to turn themselves in after the department released information about the scam to the media. Investigators say the leaders of the operation would recruit others to take part in the scam by getting them to open up checking accounts at TD Bank, Wood Forest Bank, and Wells Fargo Bank. The scam cost the banks more than $20,000, the department said. Deputies are trying to identify the man in the photos who they say stole a woman's car and used her debit card.
Richland County deputies are looking for a man they say stole a woman's car, purse, cash and debit card. The man stole the woman's 2002 Nissan Altima from her home on Ivy Garden Lane near Irmo between 3 a.m. April 30 and 9 a.m. May 1, according to the sheriff's department. Her purse, cash and debit card were inside the car. When the woman called her bank to tell them about her stolen debit card, they told her it had been used at three locations: The man using the woman's debit card was captured on surveillance cameras at the Shell gas station. Anyone with information about the man should call Crimestoppers at 1-888-CRIME-SC.
