Irmo Chief: Homeowner Shoots Burglar Inside New Friarsgate Home

The Irmo Police Department is investigating a burglary where a homeowner shot a man twice after the man entered his home.

An Irmo homeowner shot an intruder twice after the man entered the New Friarsgate home by climbing through the kitchen window.

About 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday, the owner of a home on Trinity Three Road in Irmo was awoken by banging on his home. 

Irmo Police Chief Brian Buck said the homeowner, whose name has been withheld by authorities, grabbed his pistol and went downstairs.

The suspect had entered the home through a kitchen window. 

The homeowner confronted the man in the kitchen.

Fearing for his safety, the homeowner shot the man twice, Buck said. 

The man fled the home and made it to North Royal Tower Drive before collapsing in street. 

The man was transported to Palmetto Health Richland. As of Tuesday, the man was in critical condition.

Buck said the man refused to identify himself. 

No charges have been filed.
