I always have a soft spot for people who help those in need. When I recently learned about what Adam Hinen of Chapin was doing, I had to help drum up support to help him!
Adam is a member of Boy Scout Troop 870 which is based out of my church home, St. Francis of Assisi. He is working on his Eagle Scout Project like many young men do this time of year. Adam is collecting donations of warm articles of clothing and other supplies to be given to homeless people in the Midlands. He is working with the Salvation Army, another worthy organization that strives to make a positive difference in our community.
So how can we help Adam? He's placed collection boxes at the following locations around town:
- Chapin Town Hall (103 Columbia Ave.)
- Chapin Presbyterian Church (600 Old Lexington Hwy.)
- St. Francis of Assisi Episcopal Church (735 Old Lexington Hwy.)
He's looking for new and lightly used coats, jackets, hats, gloves, blankets, towels, scarves and socks. The drive lasts for two months and he will be picking up items every other week. You can also make arrangements to have Adam come by your home or office if you need assistance with donating your items. Simply contact Adam at sharethewarmthchapin@gmail.com.
I hope you will take a look through your closet or drawers and donate some items to support Adam's project. I know I am looking forward to helping this young man on his journey to becoming an Eagle Scout!
Whoever despises his neighbor is a sinner, but blessed is he who is generous to the poor.
