We have relaunched our Readers' Choice contest with dozens of new categories, including gyms and fitness centers.

Have you been working on that swimsuit body? Are you trying to get in shape or improve your health?

If you are looking for a great gym or fitness center in your area who would you ask?
Why your neighbors of course!

What local gym has proved to be the best for weight loss, training, fitness and more?

We are looking for the place that got you pumped up!

Whether it’s weightlifting, circuit training, cardio or boot camp, nominate your favorite workout spot to be part of our “Best Gym or Fitness Center,” as Patch unveils its Readers' Choice.

Just log in and post your vote in the comments section below. You may nominate multiple places, but please post each nomination in a separate comment so we can make sure they are all counted. Your nominee must be in Irmo, Lexington, Spring Valley or St. Andrews to be eligible.

Nominations are due by July 9.

Voting for Readers’ Choice 2012 will begin in late July and winners will be announced in August.

This would HAVE TO BE CrossFit Iron Mary's in Lexington's Old Mill. The concept of Crossfit is much better for you overall, but Ray and Mary know how to challenge people to be their best, and really care about people and fitness. I know a number of people who are regular members there, and I don't see people coming out of big chain corporate gyms looking too excited about working out. The people at Iron Mary's talk about their workouts outside the gym, and laugh and seem to be having a blast together.

D's Tennis & Fox Fitness
Located in Quail Valley Swim & Racquet Club off of Harbison Blvd, you get the opportunity to come in and work out either one on one with a trainer or join in one of the functional fitness classes. Both are designed to fit each individuals personal fitness goals, its not a one size fits all gym. You also don't have the intimidation of big crowded gyms, oversized classes, or having to wait to use equipment. This gym also offers fitness training for, sports performance, injury preventions, corrective exercise techniques to children and adults!

Columbia Martial Arts & Fitness has been helping people in the Lexington-West Columbia get in shape physically and mentally for almost 20 years. There are a wide variety of programs for adults and kids that will help you lose or maintain a healthy weight as well as helping develop self-discipline. You also learn real life self-defense skills that could save your or someone else's life. Located just off Hwy 1 near the Barnyard Flea Market it is convenient for every one.

Dainyell is awesome! I own and operate a parking lot construction business and thanks to her functional training, I no longer have the back and shoulder pains that used to be a constant reminder of my physically demanding job. She is not a registered dietitian, however she was able to help me come up with a healthier eating plan as I worked long, hot days in a parking lot. Dainyell has always gone the extra mile for her clients and friends, and all of her clients consider her a friend. She is by far the best trainer and her new gym is a haven for people tired of the same old, same old. She does not cater to the silicone enhanced size 2's or the muscle heads. She will train anyone and everyone and makes you feel like you have been her client for years. Her gym has no memberships so you have disposal of the entire facility when you are with her. I call D's Tennis and Fox Fitness located at Quail Valley, a true gem of a gym!

I don't see anything wrong with learning CPR, or lifesaving (swimming), or courses on nutrition andRead More child-raising. Lots of courses are good things. What I don't think is a good thing, is having state legislators passing bills on this level of detail. State legislatures get very political, and then want to legislate things like creationism (intelligent design) or ban the science behind evolution. Political hacks should not be determining the school curriculum, they are not actually the most knowledgeable people with respect to academics. They are politicians; that does not make them experts on anything in particular except winning elections.

As long as they put a clause in you can't be sued if the person dies. Or you break the person's rib.Read More Or you injure the person in a certain way. Or the student is not high on drugs, or booze.

Most don't know their ABC's. How about making that happen first?

I read somewhere on Facebook that people were getting him confused with Hugo Chavez. Por favor...

I don't think Google does much in the way of religious doodles -- Passover, Ramadan, etc. so why theRead More flack? The Chavez holiday coincided with Easter, but I suspect that those who are complaining would have found another reason to criticize Google if the Chavez birthday had fallen on a day other than Easter and the company had run the doodle.

When I was in 8th grade, April Fools Day happened to land on the day I came back from the beach withRead More my friends after spring break. I got this REALLY good fake belly button ring to freak out my dad. Well, he took one look at it--completely unaware it was fake--and pulled it out. Needless to say, I never got anything pierced for real.

I am completely familiar with state owned aircraft and how they are to be used. This was aRead More completely legitimate use of the state aircraft, there is simply no real argument against its use. Only those who support the socialized medicine represented by Obamacare or a wide variety of curmudgeons think that this government witness should have been privately funded.
Tom Utley March 26, 2013 at 03:02 pm
Kat, this is just pathetic. You disagree with nullification (and therefore support the PPACA) butRead More can't rationally debate the merits, so you latch on to this ridiculous argument. The legislature is in the business of making laws. There are expenses in that business. In my perfect world, there wouldn't be a legislature, but in this world there is and they need to have expert input into their process or else they will just be flying blind, and we've seen how badly that turns out.

Excuse me there 'teabag party' head. While you're right about he should pay you'd better look in theRead More mirror son. You got two wars you cheered on, quickly abandoning why we even sent our military into that region, Absolutely Free and actually worse as not a dime has been paid for that credit card debt principle yet. But more important you haven't paid anything as to the results of and the greater majorities responsibility the VA and veterans of, DeJa-Vu all over again, a decade plus added to the previous decades and wars of!!!!! He's exactly like you and you all hire the same!! USN All Shore '67-'71 GMG3 Vietnam '70-'71
