Viers Announces Resignation from SC House
South Carolina Rep. Thad Viers resigns amid harassment charges.
South Carolina Rep. Thad Viers, R-Horry, has announced his resignation from the House of Representatives during a legislative session Wednesday morning.
Viers, who faces charges of first-degree harassment after an incident involving his 28-year-old girlfriend, said he was resigning because he will be indicted Thursday in regards to the incident, according to a report from The State.
In January, Viers withdrew from the state's new 7th Congressional District after being charged by the Myrtle Beach Police Department.
According to a police report, Viers continued to call, text and email his ex-girlfriend after she broke off the relationship in June or July in 2011.
Viers has served in the House of Representatives for five terms.
