The country’s first golf course was built in 1786 in Charleston.

There are more than 350 golf courses around the state, according to a 2006 tourism report, giving South Carolina the highest number of holes per capita in the country.

National golf magazines often tout the Palmetto State’s great “green” offerings.

We love our golf.

But where should we go?

Do we head to the little Par-3 around the corner, the easy-going municipal course or the immaculate country club?

We want to know where your favorite place to walk or ride on a cool Saturday morning in Spring Valley, Irmo, Lexington and St. Andrews. It has to be in one of our Patches to be eligible to win.

Nominate your favorite course to be part of our “Best Golf Course” contest as Patch unveils its Readers Choice.

Just log in and post your vote in the comments section below.

You may nominate multiple places, but please post each nomination  in a separate comment so we can make sure they are all counted.

Nominations are due by July 9.

Voting for Readers’ Choice 2012 will begin in late July and winners will be announced in August.
