Irmo Town Council Candidate Profile: Kathy Condom
Former council member seeks another term on Irmo Town Council.
Coming this Tuesday, registered Irmo voters will head to the polls to chose a candidate to fill an unexpired term on Town Council.
Only two people applied to run in the special election, which is being held to fill the seat that was left vacant after Mayor Hardy King won the mayoral race in November.
Candidates are Josh Smith, an information technology consultant, and former council member Kathy Condom, an office manager at a real estate firm.
We asked both candidates several questions to help our readers when deciding his or her vote.

Patch ran a candidate profile for Condom in November. Condom was one of four people to run for mayor in November.
Patch also asked Condom why she decided to run again and her thoughts on a new town park.
Patch: Why did you decide to run again?
Condom: "I decided to run again after finding out that only 1 person filed for the vacant council seat; that person had been to council 3 times asking for chickens (6 per household) to be added to our Single Family Residential zoning. I could not fathom someone with those opinions being on council. Just think of the decrease in property values, the sanitation problems, the possible contamination of ground water and the smell! I am running because I am against the chickens!"
Patch: Do you think Irmo needs a new town park
Condom: "I don’t know about a new park but I do think we need a home or venue for the Okra Strut if we are to continue with the festival. I have not ruled out having the festival on one of our major roadways or even at Saluda Shoals Park."
Patch: Anything else you want to add?
Condom: "We need stronger code enforcement and neighborhood police protection. There are 3 dangerous streets in Irmo—Finsbury in Coatesworth, Archers Lane in Archers Court, and North Royal Tower in Friarsgate. On all 3, cars are driving too fast to stop for a pedestrian. We certainly need to take care of this! With all the walking for health today, we must make our streets safe for walkers."
"We must budget conservatively and be careful with spending. I was to continue with a “No Tax” policy."
"This election and others afterwards should not be totally about politics. This one is about the CHICKENS!! We should run on the issues and on our own merits. I have too much respect for people to attempt to tear down their character because they are seeking community service."
