DEW Website Defaced, No Personal Information Compromised
The Department of Employment and Workforce's website homepage was defaced, but no personal information was breached.
Authorities are investigating the website defacement of a South Carolina agency.
A spokesperson for DEW told the station a "malicious user" defaced the website.
The website was taken offline to remove the defacement.
No personal information was compromised.
A website defacement is an attack on a website that changes the visual appearance of the site or a webpage.
Earlier this year, the Department of Revenue's database was hacked, exposing the personal information of millions of taxpayers and 700,000 businesses.

What is wrong with our state? They can't be trusted to do anything until the horse is out of the barn. This makes the second time something like this has happened in less than 6 months. You'd think they would have learned a lesson about hacking. Too much to ask I guess. We need to clean house in the worst way.

The good thing is DEW has a "security infrastructure" in place so no personal information was accessed, according to the department. I would hope all agencies have taken a look at the security of our personal information after the DOR breach.

DEW is the best agency in SC and the Sumter Office the best office. DEW wishes everyone a safe and fun season.
