Deputies, Family Seek Public's Help in Lexington County Homicide

Investigators say the killing wasn't random

Lexington County Sheriff's Department deputies and the family of a 50-year-old Chapin man who was killed on Friday in his home are seeking the public's help in solving the case.

was shot and killed in his Meadowlark Road home between 9 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. on Friday.

Investigators say the killing wasn't random and that there is a connection between Cannon and his assailant.

On Tuesday morning, deputies returned to the community to pass out flyers hoping someone may have information about what happened.

While Cannon's family is searching for answers after Friday's shooting, they also are mourning the death of on her way to his home, after recieving news about his murder.

Margaret B. Fulcher, 70, of Chapin, was driving on Dreher Island Road in Chapin when she ran off the left side of the road and struck a utility pole and a large tree, according to the S.C. Highway Patrol.

"That one selfish act has caused another death," said Jennifer Cannon, the daughter of David Cannon and granddaughter of Margaret Fulcher. “They were the glue. They took the glue away from this family."

"If I was that person, I wouldn’t know how I would live."

A sign asking for anonymous tips sits in the front of the Meadowlark Road home and the family is hoping that someone will come forward with any information.

“It was in broad daylight,” Jennifer Cannon said. “There has to be someone that knows something.”

 “He was already terminally ill, so for someone to shoot him it was a cowardly thing to do.”

The family said David Cannon was diagnosed on March 16, 2009, with liver disease and was only given two months to live at the time.

"He fought so hard and outlived the doctor’s diagnosis," Jennifer Cannon said. "The doctors would say you are a miracle child and then someone comes in and steals his life from him that he has fought so hard to keep and be here."

"Things were starting to get better. He was a good man. He didn’t deserve to go out like that."

Jennifer Cannon said the family is accepting monetary donations to help with her father's funeral arrangements. In leiu of flowers, donations can be made in honor of David Kent Cannon at Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, 503 N. Lake Drive, Lexington.
